Why is Lord of the Rings so good?

One of the reasons may be that Tolkien wrote an incredible amount about Middle Earth.

The detail in which these books were written has spawned D&D, an entire genrĀŽs of gamesand books, as well as conquered Hollywood. Furthermore, Tolkien gave us pretty complete information about the sex lives of Elves. Isn’t that interesting?
