Hot Tub Boat!

It seems like it might be a little foolhardy to pilot a boat 90% full of water and a wood burning stove mounted on it, but something about the HotTug is very appealing to me. Imagine cruising ice cold Cascade lakes in the snow!

Update, Feb 2017This has been percolating in the back of my mind for all this time. Eventually, I’d like to try building my own out of polystyrene and fiberglass. See these underwater wood stoves for more inspiration.

Parkour

Parkour is a crazy amazing type of urban running/jumping/kung fu. It’s been around for a while, basically invented in the 90s by a couple of french brothers. One of them even made a couple of pretty sweet movies featuring it. (I’m hoping the sequel is as good as the first one, anyway.) This amazing stop motion/flip book captures the essence of the sport in a startling and neat way:

I just read this Smithsonian Magazine article about Willamette Valley truffle hunting. I’d like to go mushroom hunting and score some nice truffles (or chanterelles, or porcini). Anybody know a fun mycologist?
